BOI Reporting Update 2025: Who’s Now Exempt?

May 22, 2025

BOI reporting in 2024 felt like the IRS and TSA teamed up to make paperwork your new cardio.
It was on, it was off, then it was on again—like a bad relationship with regulations. But now, the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) drama finally got its season finale… and spoiler alert: it’s good news for small businesses.

As of April 2025, President Trump and the Treasury hit the pause button—hard. If you’re a domestic U.S. entity (LLC, partnership, corporation formed in the U.S.), you’re officially off the BOI reporting hook. No more reports. No more form-staring contests. No more wondering if FinCEN is hiding under your bed.

🧘‍♀️ So Who Can Finally Breathe?

If your business was formed in any of the 50 states, you’re exempt. That’s right. You can spend less time navigating red tape and more time building a community-focused, event-driven studio that actually pays you back for all your creative energy.

🌎 But What If You’re Not Fully Local?

If you’re a foreign entity doing business in the U.S., the clock is still ticking. You’ve got 30 days to file from either your registration date or from the release of this new update—so don’t go off-grid just yet.

✨ What You Still Need to Do

Even if you’re now exempt, don’t toss your corporate records in the kiln.
Keep:

  • 💼 Detailed ownership documentation
  • 🧾 Clean LLC or corporate minutes
  • 🔒 A BOI report ready, just in case FinCEN changes its mind again (hey, it’s happened before)

Creativity and CPAs don’t generally go together. Most people think of CPAs as nerdy accountants who can’t talk with people. Well, it’s time to break that stereotype. Lively, friendly, and knowledgeable can be a part of your relationship with your CPA, as demonstrated by Donna and Chad Bordeaux. They have over 50 years of combined experience as entrepreneurial CPAs. They’ve owned businesses and helped business owners exceed their wildest dreams. They have been able to help businesses earn many times more profit than the average business in the same industry and are passionate about helping industries that help families build great memories.
